$25 vs $100+. We used both scales for 6 months, measuring the same person at the same time each morning. Here's what we found.

Bottom Line
For 90% of people, the Renpho is the right choice. The Withings scale is superior in build quality, Wi-Fi convenience, and app ecosystem — but the core function (tracking body composition trends) is nearly identical. The extra $75 buys a premium experience, not meaningfully better health data.

Both scales use bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) to estimate body composition. The difference: Withings uses 4-electrode BIA (measuring upper and lower body separately), while Renpho uses 2-electrode BIA (through the feet only).
In practice, after 6 months of parallel testing:
Conclusion: Withings has more consistent body composition readings. But for trend-tracking (which is what matters), both work equally well.
This is Withings' clearest advantage. With Wi-Fi, data syncs to the app automatically — you don't need to open the Renpho app before stepping on the scale. For disciplined habit-builders, this is minor. But if you often forget to open the app, Renpho will miss weigh-ins.
Our take: the Wi-Fi feature is genuinely useful, but not worth $75 on its own. If you're disciplined about opening the app, Renpho works just as well.
For weight, both scales are accurate to within ±0.2 lbs — essentially the same. For body composition, Withings uses 4-electrode BIA resulting in somewhat more consistent readings. However, both are estimates. The difference is marginal for trend-tracking purposes.
The Withings scale works with the free Health Mate app. There is no subscription required for basic features. Withings does offer a premium subscription for advanced insights, but core scale functionality is free.
Both support up to 8 user profiles. Withings has a slight edge with more reliable auto-recognition. Renpho works well with slightly more manual profile selection. For most families, either works well.
Our Pick: Renpho for Most People
